David C. Watkins, III

David C. Watkins, III, co-founder of Elder, Watkins, Friedman & Allen, P.C., and Managing Partner of the Charlotte Court House Office, grew up in the seat of Charlotte County, in the small town of Charlotte Court House, Virginia.  David maintains strong ties to his community, proudly continuing the legacy of the Watkins family involvement in the business and government affairs of Charlotte County and the surrounding region for over two centuries.

David attended Hampden-Sydney College where he received a Bachelor of Arts in History in 2010.  He obtained his Juris Doctor degree in 2014 from the Appalachian School of Law.  Immediately after law school, Watkins practiced with a private firm in Southside Virginia, gaining valuable legal experience, particularly in real estate law.

In 2016, David co-founded Elder & Watkins, P.C.  He is proud to have helped grow the firm to Elder, Watkins, Friedman & Allen, P.C.

David is admitted to practice law in all Virginia courts, as well as the United States District Courts of the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia.  He is an experienced trial lawyer, having successfully handled cases in both state and federal courts. David maintains a diverse practice, which includes the following areas:

  • Criminal defense
  • Real estate (including residential and commercial transactions)
  • Domestic/family law
  • Small business formation
  • Estate planning
  • Civil litigation

David continues to garner strong ties to his community.  He was instrumental in establishing a local branch of Operation Blessing, an outreach that provides necessities such as clothing and furniture to Charlotte County’s neediest residents.  He is also involved in the Charlotte County branch of Preservation Virginia, the Friends of the Library or Charlotte County, the Patrick Henry Memorial Foundation, and is a former President of the Keysville Ruritan Club.  David also continues a strong relationship with his alma mater and is a regular attendant of any and all Hampden-Sydney sporting events.

David and his wife, Erica, split time between homes in Charlotte Court House and the Church Hill neighborhood of Richmond, and enjoy traveling, cooking, and spending time with their three dogs.
