Gary Elder grew up on a farm in Charlotte County, Virginia. After attending Randolph Henry High School, he graduated from Hampden-Sydney College with a degree in History. He spent another two years at Hampden-Sydney serving as an Assistant Dean before enrolling in Law School.

Gary received his Juris Doctorate from Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama. After practicing law in Washington D.C., he returned to Southside Virginia in 2011 to begin a new law practice.

Elder currently serves on the Virginia State Bar Disciplinary Committee for the 9th Judicial District of Virginia. He is also Town Attorney for the Towns of Farmville, Charlotte Court House, Drakes Branch and Keysville.

Elder’s community involvement includes serving on the Board of Directors for Farmville Area Habitat for Humanity and as former president of the Keysville Ruritan Club. He is a member of Madisonville Presbyterian Church and Charlotte County Friends of the Library. He also serves as President of the Hampden-Sydney College “Southside” Alumni Club.
